During Angelo Romano’s workshops at the National Museum in Poznań, Daniel Kurjaković – swiss curator and writer, presented an unconventional lecture “Comunity, Simultanity, Transformation”. The unconventional element was not only Kurjaković’s inspiring contributions on the subject of art with relation to society, but also the medium. Angelo Romano’s lecture at the University

On Wednesday 11th April one of our residents met his Polish audience for the first time. Angelo Romano talked about his curatorial research with students and members of the AMU Department of Art History.

“How different passages of historical moments are happening together on one place and in the same time?”

This is the title of the project carried out by Romano for the last two years in Shanghai. The starting point for his research was the discovery of a cultural phenomenon, Lai Lai Bar, a club located in a poor quarter of Shanghai, where homosexual people came to dance, accompanied Chinese music, ballroom dances imported from “the West” and structured in that tradition. This unique blend of cultural patterns provoked questions about identity building, historical influences, and the functioning of local communities, which formed the beginning to Angelo Romano’s research.
